As a photographer working with lots of dog parents (my fave!!), I get asked all the time about if it’s okay to bring your dog (or dogs!) along with you! My answer is almost always “YESSSS!!!” But, of course, there are a few things to keep in mind and think through first.
Honestly, If you want to bring your furry friend with you, that’s totally ok by me! I LOVE dogs, I’d bring my dog Rupert with me everywhere if I could! But here are a few tips to make sure bringing your dog is fun for you and not an added stress.
- Bring a friend or family member who is willing to hold and keep your pup company! Your dog will only be in probably 15% – 20% of the photos so you’ll need someone to be watching them while you’re busy doing other photos so you don’t have to worry about them as well.
- You should start your session photos without your pup! I’ve found that starting on your own, without them is an easy way to make sure you get comfortable and get a feel for working with your photographer before you add in your puppy!
- Bring treats or a squeak toy! Having these with the person watching your dog and/or your photographer helps to keep their attention and get them to cooperate.
So, that’s it! I hope next time you have a photo session scheduled, whether it’s with me or someone else, this helps you decide if you want to have your pup join in or leave them at home!
