There’s a likely chance one of the first things you thought to do after getting engaged and setting a date was create a wedding website, but you don’t know why they’re so useful or what you should use to build one. In this blog post, I want to share a few reasons why I recommend having a wedding website and some of my favorite resources! Let’s jump right in.
Let’s start with the basics… what is a wedding website + why do I need one?
Basically, a wedding website is is a personalized space online for you to share all the details of your upcoming wedding! Think of it as a home base that you can store all of the details for your day that you and your guests can refer to over and over again leading up to your big day.
The most common reason we’ve found wedding websites become so popular other than housing all of your wedding information is that it allows you to collect your RSVPs virtually without buying so many extra stamps that may not even be used! Traditionally, you would mail your guests an RSVP card that they then need to fill out and send back by post (which I do love because tiny envelopes are the cutest). However, if you choose, you can eliminate that extra step, get instant answers and save time by having them do that through your site!
Your wedding website can also include information like your love story and engagement photos, links to your registries, accommodation options for your guests, etc. There’s no right or wrong time to build your wedding website, just having it is going to save you from having to share the same information over and over again with your guests! But, I recommend, once you have your basic information like date, venue and times… get it out there! 6-9 months before your wedding date is a good estimation of when you should have it built. And to make sure all your guests know about it, be sure to include the link on your save the dates and/or official invitations!
Okay, you sold me! I know I need a website, but where should I make one?!
Great question 😉 As a wedding photographer and a frequent wedding guest, I’ve seen all kinds of website builders used for wedding websites. Here are a few of my favorites, that you should check out:
One thing I’ve found to be fun, if you’re not using a designer to build custom wedding invitations is to see if the company you’re using for your website offers matching invitations and stationary! That is always a simple way to add consistency to your wedding theme and one more thing off your plate!
