Hi, I'm ashley.

More and more, I’m seeing a new trend of couples getting creative and deciding to carve out time on their wedding day to intentionally connect with their spouse. One common way I’ve seen that done is by taking time to read private letters separately or vows together. These intentional moments are always full of emotion and extremely heartfelt. This kind of moment is best suited for the more private couple. Below are some sweet examples from moments like this to get inspiration from!

Private vows the night before the wedding

Gianna and Ajax hosted their wedding weekend at Bernardus Lodge & Spa in Carmel Valley. They decided to have their vows before their welcome party which, in turn, gave them time alone together and set the intention for the weekend. Afterwards they shared gifts and we took a few more minutes to snap some couple portraits before they joined the welcome party festivities.

Separately reading private letters while getting ready

During their wedding at Bailey Creek Golf Course, Sarah and Anthony exchanged letters to each other to read on their own time on the morning of the wedding. It was genuinely such a sweet and sentimental moment to witness. Also, a plus here was that their hair and makeup team were still present to help touch up makeup post happy-tears!

Personal ceremony vows

This is what my husband and I did – we wrote our own vows and shared them with each other during the ceremony. It was very emotional and honestly hard to get through because of the crying – but I wouldn’t have had it any other way! Look at these emotional photos from Chloe and Jake’s Napa Valley wedding ceremony who chose to do the same thing.

Writing letters to your future selves

I don’t have any pictures of this example, but I had a couple share with me that they wrote letters to themselves for their 1, 5, 10, 15, 20+ wedding anniversaries to read together. I absolutely loved this idea and while it definitely took some time and intention, the idea was so sweet and I know they are going to be looking forward to opening those letters on each monumental anniversary!
