The biggest hurdle I often times see clients facing is choosing their outfits for photo sessions. So whether you have an engagement session or family session coming up, here are a few tips for selecting outfits you will love AND that will look good on camera:
- Coordinate colors, but avoid matching perfectly.
- Stick to solid colors or subtle patterns to keep the focus on you.
- Avoid patterns such as plaid, small stripes/dots and florals, they just don’t show up well on camera.
- Consider the location and season when choosing your clothes.
- Make sure your footwear looks like you are all going to do the same activity. If one of you is in boots, the other shouldn’t be in flip flops.
- Avoid logos and busy patterns that can be distracting.
- Think about accessories too! Scarves, hats and/or jewelry are a great way to add a personal touch to your outfits.
- Lay out your outfits the night before to ensure everything is clean and ready and you’re not scrambling last minute before walking out the door.
- For engagement sessions, plan on at least two outfits. If you are not sure on one, bring a third so you have options.
For clients on the fence about outfit choices, please feel free send me a photo of your options! I am more than happy to weigh in and give my thoughts 🙂
