This was my first bilingual wedding ever and it was incredible. There is something about having the same speech spoken twice. You become highly aware of the emotion in the faces of others while they listen and it is powerful! Let me tell you, there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the officiant & friend translated Oscar’s Dad’s speech to the english speakers.
Oscar and Karin met in February 2017 in Mancora, Peru while Karin was backpacking through South America and Oscar was vacationing with his friends. They traveled together for 2 weeks before Oscar had to return to Chile. In August, Karin moved to Santiago, Chile to be with Oscar. They lived in Santiago together for over a year before decided to go backpacking throughout Central and South America. In December 2018, Karin and Oscar flew to Cancun, Mexico to start their 6 month adventure together! They traveled through Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Colombia, where they got engaged. After 6 months of navigating through these countries, Karin and Oscar knew they were meant for each other. Then they had to return to their respective countries and wait for Oscar’s visa to be approved so he could move to California. Oscar arrived in November and the two have been planning like crazy to celebrate their love in February 2020 with both of their families present!
Karin and the ladies got ready at her family home by the park. In the backyard is where the couple had their first look! Then we took wedding party photos in the redwood grove by the nature center in lower Bidwell Park. It was less than a 5-minute drive from Lakeside Pavilion. This added some location variety to their photos.
I am SO in love with Karin’s wedding ring, it’s a beautiful emerald cut. I’m all for unique engagement rings that break the confines of the traditional diamond ring. I’m not hating on Diamonds, I have one myself. We all know they are a girl’s best friend. But all the new gems I’m seeing out there are like the new best friends you make at college!
Their tables had chic styling with white linens and silk charcoal grey hand linens. Paired with white and green center arrangements. The wedding party was in black, this theme tied into their winter wedding style perfectly. Although, unlike most winter weddings, here in California is was 70 degrees!
Karin & Oscar did their first dance to a Chilean Salsa. It had all the guests standing and cheering along. It was remarkable and made me wish I knew how to salsa!
I hope you love checking out this Lakeside Pavilion wedding. Maybe it will give you some ideas if you are planning a winter wedding of your own!
